He stated: This census is being carried out with the presence of a team of experts and environmentalists from the department’s conservation unit.

The head of the Oshnavieh Environmental Protection Department said: The water resources of the mountain ecosystems of this city are uniquely the habitat of both the Kurdish and Azerbaijani salamanders.
While emphasizing the necessity of these two species being under threat, Khezri added: Currently, the presence of livestock in pastures, the increasing number of tourists, and the improvement of nomadic routes and the improvement of dirt shoulders of mountain roads are the main threats to these sensitive species.
Referring to the importance of the census of this type of amphibian in nature, he stated: In this monitoring, the streams of the region are examined and after collecting statistics, the necessary plans for the protection of the salamanders are carried out by the central organization and the provincial wildlife monitoring department.
He stated: In addition to West Azerbaijan, this species of animal has also been identified in the western regions of Kurdistan and Kermanshah provinces.
So far, seven species of salamanders have been identified and named in our country: the cave salamander, the Lorestan mountain salamander (emperor), the Kurdish mountain salamander (yellow-spotted), the Azerbaijani mountain salamander, the fiery salamander, the southern crowned salamander, and the Iranian stream salamander.
