The director of water affairs of Mahabad added: This dredging is mostly done in the river leading to the lagoon and parts of the diversion dam, which is located on the way of transferring water to farmers and water pumping devices.
He continued: The deposition of sediments and the growth of reeds, plants and algae have caused the volume of water stored in it to decrease greatly, and on the other hand, due to the growth of algae, the water transfer system from this diversion dam for the agricultural sector of “Shahrviran Plain of Mahabad” will be associated with problems.
The director of water affairs in Mahabad stated: The dredging of this diversion dam had started with the use of 2 excavators and three dumpers, but the dredging operation has been closed for some time, and it is possible that other parts of this lagoon will be dredged up to 10,000 cubic meters again.
“Jahin” pointed out that the Yusufkand diversion dam of Mahabad has an area of 90 hectares, and reminded: this diversion dam, which has a capacity of 1.2 million cubic meters, is now more than one million cubic meters of its volume filled with sediments.
