Severe Air Pollution in Sardasht

The Air Quality Index (AQI) serves as a daily measure of air quality

Mahabad/Balviz/Environmental News/ Air pollution levels in Sardasht have reached four times the permissible limit.

According to Balviz news site،Air pollution in Sardasht has reached a critical state, with pollutant levels increasing to four times the permissible limit.

Hadi Ahmadpour, the head of the Sardasht Environmental Protection Agency, reported that dust storms have severely degraded air quality in the region.

According to data recorded at the pollution monitoring station, suspended particulate matter in the air has now exceeded 600 micrograms per cubic meter.

This level of pollution not only reduces horizontal visibility but also poses significant health risks to individuals suffering from heart problems, asthma, and respiratory issues.

Ahmadpour advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and, to wear masks for protection.

He explained that the source of this dust originates from neighboring countries and has been carried into Sardasht by prevailing winds.

This situation marks the third occurrence of severe air pollution this year.

Ahmadpour added that weather maps indicate this dust storm will continue to affect the region until tomorrow, Thursday, leading to ongoing declines in air quality.

The Air Quality Index (AQI), which serves as a daily measure of air quality and its impact on public health, is currently in the hazardous range.

Sardasht, located in southern West Azerbaijan, has a population of approximately 120,000 residents.
