According to the report of the environment service, Balviz news website, director of water resources of Bukan city said: The operation of releasing 150 million cubic meters of water from the Bukan dam to the lake has started.

Abbas Abbasi added: The operation of releasing water from the Bukan Dam into Lake Urmia in line with the management plans of reservoir dams in the catchment area of Lake Urmia started three days ago and is still ongoing.

Abbasi stated: Based on the announcement of Iran’s water resources management and with the aim of providing part of the environmental needs of Lake Urmia, 150 million cubic meters of water from the Bukan Dam will be released to the lake.

In order to restore Lake Urmia, only from the water year of 93-94 to the fall of 99, more than six billion and 15 million cubic meters of water have been released from satellite dams to this lake.

From the Kani Sib water transfer project, which was opened in March last year with a credit of 35 thousand billion Rials, in the first stage, 300 million cubic meters of water was released from the Kani Sib dam lake in Piranshahr to the lake.

Lake Urmia needs 3,426 million cubic meters of water annually to reach the ecological level.
